This is a story of one Maynul, who once fell victim to the cunning advice of his neighbors. They convinced him that by reducing his age on his national ID, through a falsified birth year, he could extend his eligibility for government jobs and significantly improve his chances of employment. Misguided but hopeful, Maynul followed their advice. In Bangladesh, such changes require an affidavit sworn before a magistrate, affirming the truth of the updated information. He complied, and soon his national ID reflected a false birth year along with a few spelling errors. Years passed, and the weight of his conscience grew heavier. Realizing the gravity of his actions, Maynul decided to make things right. After sharing his story and regrets, we helped him draft a new affidavit, this time declaring his true information, expressing sincere remorse, and pledging to be more cautious in the future. Fortunately, the magistrate recognized Maynul’s honesty and accepted the affidavit. Now, armed with the proper documentation, he is actively working to correct the mistakes he once made.
